Jeff Hanson's '69 Camaro, which he calls Tech 9, also made a strong showing through the cones. It came through as one of the SMOY final five. Hanson's ride runs a Katech-cammed LS7 backed by a T56, Detroit Speed suspension all the way around and an eye-catching custom three-stage Candy Red paint scheme, among a plethora of other goodies.

Given that this '62 Corvette's owner departed the scene when it got wet, we didn't get to ask if those dog-dish hubcaps and steel wheels were hiding the rare RPO 687 Heavy Duty Brakes and Steering option-or if the 360hp 327 fuelie that came with them was under the hood. We'll just have to wonder.

Wandering around in the rain proved to be worth the soaking when we found Jim Garrett's '72 Monte Carlo, complete with a 454 big-block/Turbo 350 combo.

Just as the rain decided to move on, we came across Jack Slagle's '66 Nova...

...This one's also packin' a 454, but a 585hp small-block variety. It's backed with a TKO trans and runs a full Chassisworks suspension setup. You'll see a full report on this one in a future issue.

Gary Abraham's totally blacked-out, Troy Trepanier-built '70 Nova broke up the Camaro monopoly in the final five for Street Machine of the Year...

...It sports a blown and injected 572 big-block backed by a 4L80E, which we would think is enough to keep things interesting.

We also found Jim Robinson's '71 Chevelle convertible while braving the rain...

...The LS7 under the hood looks right at home in the engine bay.

We couldn't help but stop and take a look at Danny Foreman's '68 El Camino with its bright yellow and black-stripe paint job...

...The 454/700-R4 combo wasn't bad, either.
