Ross Steffanauer isn't afraid of the long haul, whether serving in the Air Force or spending 10 years wrenching on his '74 Nova. He picked up the rust-infested ride at the tender age of 15, and managed to make it roadworthy by 16, even pushing the 350-powered Nova to 13s at the track. Ten years later he's made his dream Nova happen. The '74 now sports a 510-horse big-block 406 backed by its original (albeit beefed up) Turbo 350 trans. The combo is good for 7.28 at 92 mph in the eighth-mile. Ross says he'll soon be heading back to the desert and will miss the first part of the racing season. "On the other hand," he told us, "I'll be able to put away money for a 496 stroker motor." We like the way you think, Ross.
