'85 Iroc Coupe
James Cole
Belleville, KS
James Cole calls his ultra-clean IROC "the sleeper that I dreamed of in my youth." James started by dropping in a 330-horse 350 HO Deluxe crate motor, backing it up with the car's original five-speed, a GM lightweight flywheel and a Centerforce clutch. A 1LE aluminum driveshaft and an OEM 3.23:1 10-bolt rear complete the power delivery path. James' new mill exhales through a Hooker headers/cat back combo. Braking and turning received plenty of attention: polyurethane bushings and mounts throughout and a potpourri of parts from Edelbrock, Global West, Hotchkis, and Spohn, who also provided the 1LE brake kit. Creature comforts include a Lear/ Seigler Conteur driver's seat and an Alpine/Kenwood stereo setup; a 145-mph speedo and 5,500-rpm redline tach provide style and function. And with Sylvania SilverStars Xenon lights up front, late- night banzai runs will be well lit. Then again, we also like what James cooks up when he sleeps.
