Jim Kelty wasn't satisfied having one of the coolest-looking Camaros to ever hit the streets; it also had to have awesome performance. Beneath the F-car's mile-deep black paint he's added a 5.7L small-block garnered from an '87 cop Caprice. To decrease stopping distance he's swapped the stock 9.5-inch rear drums with '85 Cadillac Seville discs and overhauled the stock front disc system. A Hotchkis 2-inch-lowering suspension system helps the Camaro take turns in stride, and a Magnaflow exhaust system provides a deep rumble. Wicked-looking Eagle Torque Thrust wheels sit on all four corners, measuring 17x8 with P245R45/17 rubber.

Our man James hasn't been able to enjoy his Camaro much lately, being in Iraq and all. It's a bummer, since this Z packs an SLP cold-air kit, a BBK throttle-body, Hooker headers, and a Magnaflow exhaust, for starters. It's also backed by a transplanted T56 and hooks with help from Kenny Brown subframe connectors and a BMR adjustable torque arm. The good news, according to James, is that "being over here in Iraq really helps me save money, since I don't have anything to spend it on." So all that dough is going toward a 396 stroker/ATI Procharger combo, which should be ready to rock when James gets home.

Lieutenant Colonel Jim "Mace" Macaulay thrives on things that travel fast and look cherry. In his ground time you can find him racing his red-white-and-blue '73 Vette in vintage road-racing events. Mace tells us he's "turned every bolt on the car, and it has more parts from eBay than from Chevrolet." Powering the Vette is a 10.2:1-compression small-block. Dispensing the fumes is a set of Hooker 131/44-inch headers (square flange) and Dynomax bullet mufflers. The drivetrain consists of an M-21 close-ratio Muncie four-speed with 3:73:1 gears out back, to allow a 146-mph top speed against the Mallory 6,500-rpm limiter. CHP
