Two Of A Kind
'68 CAMARO
MIchael Kelcy
Altadena, CA
Cruising to shows on the weekends isn't unheard of, but transversing 3,900 miles for a joy ride commands respect. Michael Kelcy did just that to hang out with his online buddies from Camaro.net on the Run to the Rockies cruise. While Michael tells us, "The car is a driver, not a show car," we beg to differ. The '68's blue exterior shines with luster and the interior is mint, with its custom-mounted C5 Corvette bucket seats. Motivation comes via a small-block 350 with a late-model T56 six-speed behind it and an 8.2-inch 10-bolt rearend with 4.11:1 gears. The C5 theme is extended to all four corners with factory GM wheels. And for road feel, Michael installed Global West springs for a 2-inch drop with solid aluminum body-mount bushings, DSE upper and lower control-arm bushings, and a Hotchkis front sway bar, topping it off with Koni adjustable shocks. Take heed, people. We like drivers, not trailer queens.
'99 Camaro SS
Eric Winston
Norwalk, CA
You have to admire a guy who's owned several fourth-gens in such a short period of time. At only 19, Eric Winston is already on his third ride. Although his '99 SS is currently regulated as a daily driver, he's installed a few key components, including a custom-grind Comp Cams 'stick, upgraded valvesprings, a stainless steel Borla cat-back system, and an LS6 manifold, and he's managed to coax 415 hp and 390 lb-ft to the rear wheels. As if that weren't enough, the suspension has been worked over with a BMR strut tower brace, Eibach springs, QA1 shocks and struts, and Factory Repro wheels with 17x9.5s up front and 18x10.5s out back. What you can't see are the monstrous 315s being used for added traction. The SS is mighty fine, but we have to give him extra credit for acknowledging all the support he's received from his father and family. Motor on, Eric, motor on!

Ready To Rumble
'57 Bel Air
Rick Jackon
Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
Rick Jackson's red and white Bel Air maintains that impact with its 283ci, four-barrel motor (factory-rated at 220 horses), 4.11:1 gears, and owner-added Borg-Warner four-speed trans. To keep the nostalgia theme moving, he's added a set of Cragar SS wheels (15x6 front, 15x8 rear) and fitted them with P215/ 60R15s and P265/50R15s rubber. A pair of Cherry Bomb glasspacks makes the motor rumble, and an Auto Meter Monster Tach, mounted to the old column shift lever boss, communicates engine rpm. Rick's to-do list for the '57 includes adding a pump-gas-friendly 540ci Rat motor. That move just might triple the power!
