Power To The People
General Motors Performance Parts (GMPP) has plans to market lots of performance equipment for the new Camaro. Some of our sources told us this meant exhaust systems, cold-air packages, special cams, headers, rims, and even DOT drag radials. There was even mention that some of these parts could be ordered to be on the car for delivery. Here's what this author would like to see:
*A working cowl-induction hood
*Modern-day performance radial tires with Firestone or Goodyear markings exactly like the '69s.
*A chrome shifter with the Hurst imprint in the side of it, with a classic Hurst shifter knob
*Chambered exhaust option
*The engine block painted Chevy Orange
*Roger Penske, Mark Donohue, or Sunoco Camaro badging
*A Chevy High Performance magazine performance edition
*American Racing 200 S or American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels in modern sizes
Inside Word
Chevrolet plans to design the fifth-gen Camaro to be more refined than the Mustang. It will feature fully independent front and rear suspension. The platform this new Camaro will be built on is the Zeta, a shortened version of the current Cadillac STS. As a matter of fact, the new Camaro's design has involved a lot of Cadillac engineers. Chevrolet also plans to offer a 1LE package (severe-duty components) for police and limited retail purchases.
*Four-wheel vented 14-inch brake rotors
*Progressive-rate suspension springs
*Available Corvette 6.0L LS small-block
*Active fuel management
*Widely spaced gear ratios

We haven't found out how much of the aesthetics will make production. Stay posted; we'll continue to bring you more as information trickles in. | Last summer we caught up with...
