Sleek & Red
'69 Ss 396 El Camino
Jerry Hallberg
Grand Rapids, Mi
Jerry Hallberg loves big-block power and glistening red paint. So when he decided to tackle a complete frame-off restoration project on his El Camino, the choices were simple. For power, he assembled a 454 that pumps out 425 dyno-proven horses and 490 lb-ft of torque. This Elco's Garnet Red was the No. 52 color option in '69. Cruising is made easier with a 700-R4 overdrive automatic transmission and 3.08:1 12-bolt rearend gears. Jerry's son Jake owns the blue '69 El Camino we featured in last month's Rides.

Greetings From Belgium
'73 Chevelle
Ira Bell
Willebroek, Belgium
American musclecars are cool in the states, and even cooler overseas, where Ira Bel spends his free time cruising a super-clean '73 A-body. Ira performed all of the work in Belgium except for the exhaust system. Because there is not much of an American hot-rodding culture there, Ira tells us that finding someone patient and qualified enough to help build the system was difficult. Under the hood a supercharged 400ci small-block powers the Chevelle, and shifting chores are assigned to a 200-4R overdrive. The combo has produced several bottom-13-second timeslips at 103 mph, which catches many European rides by surprise.

Shot Gun
'69 Malibu
Fred & Terry Edwards
Poway, Ca
Fred and his wife are the proud owners of this blue Chevelle Malibu. The car is packed with lots of performance goodies, including a ZZ502 crate motor, Hooker headers, and a Flowmaster exhaust system. A TH400 commanded by a B&M shifter sends the big power to a hefty 9-inch rearend. A Stainless Steel Brake system slows the car down, which Terry calls the Shot Gun.
