'65 MalibuRichard Marko
Arcadia, CA
Richard Marko and his '65 Malibu caught our attention recently at the Del Mar Goodguys event in Southern California. His Mali's 327ci has been bored 0.060 over and uses 10:1 KB pistons with Fuelie heads that have been outfitted with 2.02-/1.95-inch intake/exhaust valves. Up top, the motor is fed by a 750-cfm carb and expels gases through 21/2-inch piping to a pair of Super 44 Flowmaster mufflers. A built Turbo 350 transmission sends power to a 12-bolt rearend with an Eaton posi and 3.42:1 gears. Richard hasn't been on the dyno yet, but he predicts the numbers to be a rather stout 350 hp to the wheels.

'59 ImpalaCharlie Kuenster
Lancaster, WI
Since the mid '60s, this '59 Impala has been a dedicated race car. Charlie Kuenster has owned it since 1961 and even drove it on his honeymoon. These days, he's still hitting the dragstrip, producing a best of 11.18 at 120 mph at 4,200 pounds. The portly B-body still retains much of the factory equipment, including the wipers, heater, and radio. The best part: Charlie's still running the 409 with dual quads on it.
Midnight Special
'72 ChevelleBobby Marshall
Atlanta, GA
At first glance, you might suspect this to be a showroom stocker. However, Bobby Marshall has taken the original 454 and bored it 0.030 over, planted an Edelbrock Performer manifold and a 750-cfm carb, and transplanted a new Comp Cams 'stick into it. A 3,500-stall Turbo 400 tranny from Hughes delivers the power to the rear wheels. The exhaust notes are handled by Hedman Hedders that flow through 3-inch pipes and into turndowns. Plans call for a 12-bolt rearend and disc brakes all around.
