One man's knock-down, dragged-out divorce is another man's chance to pick up a cool car. That's exactly what Danny did in 1998. The Mali ended up in the McKee family barn, where Danny used come-alongs to hang the body panels from the rafters.
The revived frame was painted with POR-15 and fitted with stainless steel brake and gas lines. During the five-year restoration, Danny says that every nut and bolt was sandblasted and painted. The bodywork, which took nine months, culminated in multiple coats of PPG Dark Red Carmine Metallic. As for the 0.030-over small-block, Turbo 350, 3.08:1 Posi rear combo, Danny simply wrote, "20 mpg." Works for us.

Larry's Biscayne was a 39,000-mile original six-banger/Powerglide car before it got a serious infusion of bad by way of a 502 big-block built with Brodix heads, a Lunati roller cam, Super Comp headers, and Barry Grant carburetion on an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap manifold. It's all backed by a TKO 600 five-speed and a 3.70:1-geared, Detroit Truetrac-fitted Currie 9-inch. Four-wheel discs and Hotchkis suspension improve maneuverability. This Biscuit was first treated to a complete rotisserie restoration with powdercoated frame, crossmembers, core-support, and inner fenders. And even though it's an original radio delete car, "This is Florida," says Larry, "so it's air-conditioned as well."

It took a lot of negotiation to get this Deuce done. Keith and Misty finally struck a bargain that took the form of metallic sapphire over bright yellow, enhanced by HOK Sparkle Silver flames outlined with Sub Lime Green, along with some silver miniflake "to make it pop." That settled, they moved on to a custom-stitched faux-leather interior sporting a Lokar shifter, TPI Tech Streamliner gauges, and a Covan's Classic dash panel. Suspension duties are handled by Air Ride Technologies Shockwave systems front and back, utilizing an S-10 truck diff in a four-bar rear setup. Motivation comes via an L31 Vortec-headed 327 small-block, a nice choice that shouldn't have entailed much compromise.

What can we tell you? Lance's '70 Monte weighs 4,373 pounds, makes 540 hp and 585 lb-ft of torque, and has laid down a best quarter of 11.40 sans juice. Not enough for you? OK, this big boy runs a Merlin-block based 509 with a 4.500x4.250-inch bore and stroke combo, 9.5:1 compression, and 315cc Merlin heads, among other go-fast goodies. A JW manual-shift Turbo 400 and a 4.10:1 9-inch rear lay down the power with help from an Art Morrison ladder bar suspension. Fit and finish are also topnotch-Lance did "almost a frame-off," going as far as he could with an eight-point rollcage in place. Next up? Sub 11s on the juice, we're told.
