Eight years ago Glen, who has owned this Vette since new, decided to build what he calls a "wild Pro Street dream." The car now sports a one-off full-tube chassis and custom lift-off body panels that were hand-formed and painted in Glen's garage. The 9:1 compression 468 big-block, which is force-fed by a pair of Mighty Demon 750 carbs, a B&M 6-71 Mega Blower, and a Nitrous Express rail port wet nitrous system, is set back 5 inches, creating a favorable 49/51 percent weight bias. Power is transmitted via a JW Performance manual-shift Turbo 400 back to a 3.50:1-geared, Detroit Truetrac-equipped Strange 9-inch. Rear suspension is an adjustable four-link with a Panhard bar and coilovers, while the front is out of a Z51-package C4 Corvette. And that's just scratching the surface.

Duane's late father bought his wife this second-gen from the original owner. It has been in the family ever since, and now it's Duane's to tinker with. The original owner added the Z scoop and spoilers. Duane ditched the 49,000-mile 305 in favor of a 350 Target motor fitted with GM Fastburn aluminum heads, a Comp XE268 cam, GM Vortec intake, and a Holley 670 carb breathing through a now-functional Z28 scoop. Duane raided a WS6 Trans Am for swaybars and a 3.42:1 disc brake rearend, and mounted up factory Z wheels. The car has no options except for factory gauges, power steering, and power brakes-bare bones, which is just fine with Duane.

Most of us are lucky to own one Chevelle in a lifetime. Steve says he has owned 25 and that they've all been 396-powered. The keeper among them is this '67, an actual RPO 138 car (factory shorthand for the SS 396 package). It took five years to build, Steve reports, since he worked on it in between making runs as a truck driver. The car has the solid-cammed 375hp 396, backed by a Muncie four-speed trans and a 3.55:1 rearend. The newly restored car is all original, Steve reports, including factory air, AM/FM radio, the original tachometer, and even Firestone redline tires.

When the time came for Don and Liz to replace their totaled '86 Trans Am with the "race/street car" they always wanted, they decided to think inside the box. The couple came across this Malibu as a rolling chassis in a friend's shop. It was already back-halved with a 'cage and a 12-bolt spool differential. They liked the car's shape and its paint scheme, so the project progressed with a 496 Rat running all Eagle and JE forged internals, along with Brodix BB-1 heads at a 13.2:1 compression ratio. The pair doesn't know how fast the car is and isn't that concerned since it's primarily a street-driven race car.
