Terry may have been looking forward to cruising the local show scene when he picked up this '67 Chevelle a decade ago, but it's safe to say that he was also having visions of big-block power. The SS got the full frame-off treatment, along with boxed rear control arms and disc brakes all around to satisfy the first impulse. For the second, he turned to Ligenfelter Performance to build him a 496 big-block filled with a Crane solid cam and topped with massaged oval-port heads and a Holley 780-cfm carb. Power, which Terry estimates at 600 hp, runs through a TCI-built 700-R4 with a 10-inch converter-which sounds like a perfect cruiser combo to us.

The Barches are on their second '67 Camaro, a big-block RS/SS. This 10.5:1 Rat motor is punched out to 460 ci and runs a Comp solid-lifter cam and valvetrain, factory oval-port heads, and an Edelbrock Performer manifold with a Holley 850 carb topping it off. Trans is a Turbo 400 with a mild shift kit and a 2,800-stall B&M Holeshot converter, which connects to a 12-bolt rear with 3.73:1 gears. Global West suspension components are teamed with subframe connectors, QA1 shocks, an AGR steering box, and SSBC brakes up front. BFG KDWS tires on Coddington wheels ably stick the contact patch.

Monte just overhauled his A-body's suspension, installing a CPP swaybar and tubular control arms up front along with Heidts 2-inch drop spindles, Hotchkis springs, and Bilstein shocks. In back, an Edelbrock adjustable control arm kit, Hotchkis lowering springs, Bilstein shocks, and a CPP 1-inch sway bar got the call. Under the hood was already more than stout, as in a Dart-headed, 1150 Dominator-fed 540ci big-block that's dyno'd at 844 hp and 779 lb-ft on motor alone. Conveniently enough, all the fine bodywork and Cortez Silver paint with black stripes was done at the Hot Rod Haus in Trevor, Wisconsin, where Monte works.

Pastor Larry bought this late X-body three years ago for $900. There was a major dent in the left quarter-panel, and most of the body plastic was broken. The original six-banger was "trashed," and the interior looked worse, he reports. Limited in time and budget but not in resolve, Larry started from the bottom up with new suspension and disc brakes. He was then given a small-block and had it filled with KB pistons and a Crane cam before topping it with Edelbrock heads, intake, and 650-cfm carb, and MSD ignition. The factory TH350 was rebuilt with a strong shift kit and a B&M 2,500-stall converter. The body is now perfect and wearing a coat of Dodge Durango Chili Pepper Red.

Lones bought his '57 Bel Air drag car in 1970 for the princely sum of $1,000. The car had a 283 backed by a Muncie transmission and a 12-bolt diff. Now it has a bigger set of drag slicks, a G-Force five-speed gearbox, a Mark Williams 9-inch rearend, and a much better 283 engine with a 0.700-inch-lift cam and dual Holley carbs. The car is all steel except for the fiberglass hood, weighing in at 3,700 pounds with driver. When Lones dumps the Hillbilly's clutch at 10 grand, he says it makes him feel 16 years old again. We bet it does!
