When Douglas Huie purchased his Z28 fresh out of high school, the late second-gen was already 9 years old-although these days, his little gem looks right off the showroom floor. The small-block was bored 0.060-inches over. Atlantic Motorsports in New Milford, Connecticut, filled the block with JE pistons with final compression numbers peaking at 10.8:1. Cylinder heads of choice are a pair of Dart Sportsmans with a port and polish finish. Crane Gold rockers tickle Ferrea valves and the motor pumps out a healthy 509 hp and 450 lb-ft on motor alone and 709 hp and 650 lb-ft on nitrous. Power channels through a 4,500-stall converter with a built 9-inch rearend. House of Kolor's Violet Pearl was sprayed for the final touch.
