Glenn Grozich--'62 Biscayne--June
This year's pick for CHP's Chevy of the Year is the stunning '62 Biscayne--dubbed Chicayne by its creators--belonging to Billet Specialties bigwig Glenn Grozich. Assembled by Troy Trepanier of Rad Rides, this car has more tricks than a cheap magician and plenty of horsepower to back it up. It's also a road warrior, traveling the entire 2003 Hot Rod Power Tour and beyond. Under the hood lurks a 406ci small-block that pumps out 1,120 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. For more details, see our owner and builder interviews on page 61 and the original feature in our June '03 issue.
Mark Stielow--'69 Camaro--July
The concept of Pro Touring that CHP has preached for some time now has been taken to a whole new level and wrapped in the silver sheetmetal of a '69 Camaro. If image is everything, then Mark's Camaro has it all, plus a down-low stance that is just right. Stepping on the loud pedal unleashes 524 hp of 400ci small-block through a T56 six-speed to the Currie 9-inch, with asphalt clawing Fikse wheels and Michelin tires--outrageous!
Eddie Wrenn--'55 Chevy Bel Air--May
Eddie Wrenn and his son-in-law Neil Lea of Rods and Restos set an 18-month symphony of style in motion by drawing from the '55 Chevy's classic lines and blending in lots of cutting-edge design and performance. When they were done, this 502ci big-block with a six-speed transaxle and Corvette underpinnings lets Eddie cruise in one of the coolest and most progressive '55s in the country.
Katherine Nicole Lindsey--'83 S-10--November
In a quest to build something different that spanned 12 years, this young woman from Virginia embraced a vision and made it happen. This S-10 pickup does so many things so well because of all the subtle features she included in its initial development--proof that planning ahead pays. The huffer-topped 383ci small-block puts beastie horsepower through a TH700-R4 to the narrowed 12-bolt and finally to the Mickey Thompson Sportsman 33x21-15s. As equally at home at the drags as it is on a road course, the license plate says it all--GRLSCAN2.
Kevin King--'69 Camaro Convertible--August
Kevin King set a goal to develop a car that combined the best of current technology and driveability into one sweet ride, and we think he hit the mark on the nose. Power comes from a '98 LS1 with a full laundry list of performance parts breathing through a BRP-fabricated cold-air intake. We especially like the interesting mix of old and new features in the interior, paint, and body. Another Power Tour Long Hauler, this first-gen Camaro has a sleek look and is an ultimate driver.
