Admittedly, we get to check out a lot of great venues throughout the country, and one of my personal favorites is Run To The Coast, which is put on by the American Street Car Series. The promoters are hard-core enthusiasts who enjoy getting in their cars and pushing them to the limits—be it on any number of autocross or open track events. Lest we forget to mention, they’re also generally driving their cars across the country and prefer to leave their tow rigs at home.
I bring this up because last weekend we had the pleasure of participating in the third annual RTTC event. The weather conditions were outstanding, and with well over 80 cars in the mix, plenty were at hand enjoying the scenery.
Of course, I don’t want to get into too many details; we’ll have the complete story in next month’s issue. Even so, after subjecting myself to the autocross, road course, and speed-stop challenge, it reminded me how much I enjoy being behind the wheel. Like many of you, I’m far from being the fastest or the most consistent, but who cares, I was having a good ol’ time.
That said, I’m curious. In the past, I’ve inquired about your favorite power adders, engine combinations, and preference for closed course racing. This time, I’d like to know how you got started, and what is it that drives your passion? If you’re worried about responding with a novel, I welcome it and want to read all about it.
As for me, last weekend was a great reminder of why I do it. Personally, it’s an adrenalin rush like no other. Growing up, I played a lot of sports, and personally, that doesn’t compare to wheeling a car. Add in horsepower with sticky tires and it goes up exponentially. Aside from the generic fun answer, I enjoy all of the sensations leading up to the moment you stab the throttle; the sounds, the g-forces, it’s all intense and leads to pinning the adrenalin meter on full tilt.
Now that you know where I stand, what’s your story? Scribble it down and be sure to send the words to me at the email address listed above!
