Okay, folks, here’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: what’ll the 2014 Corvette Stingray do? We know what it looks like – trust me, it looks much better in person – and next we learned at which price point Chevrolet will sell it ($51,995, which ain’t a whole lotta wampum). Then, we were pleasantly surprised that the standard motor would put out 460 horsepower. But how does it perform?
For the first time, we have an idea. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will hit 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, 60-0 in 107 feet, the 1320 sprint in 12 seconds at 119 mph, and 1.03 g’s in cornering. Excited? Here’s more: a 2:51.78 lap at Virginia International Raceway’s 4.2-mile Grand Course. Test car was a Stingray equipped with the $2,800 Z51 Performance Package and $1,795 Magnetic Ride Control, with the only mods being safety-oriented items like racing seat, harness, and fire extinguisher. In case you haven't memorized the specs yet, the Z51 package includes an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, integral brake/differential/transmission cooling, and several aero tweaks.
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Quick Facts
0-60: 3.8 seconds
60-0: 107 feet
1/4 Mile: 12 seconds at 119mph
Corvette Vehicle Dynamics engineer Jim Mero claims, “The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident . . . to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well; the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble stripes when you clip the apex. It’s just addictive on the track.”
By golly it must be true because how else would the Corvette turn those lap times? Not many cars can achieve those numbers, and those that can cost as much as your house. USA! USA! USA!
