The COPO Camaro is legendary for side-stepping a GM rule limiting the F-body to the 396. For latter-day Camaros, this designation (originally used for fleet orders) was revived in 2012 for Camaros destined for Super/Super Stock NHRA racing.
This factory-built race car, equipped with Holley EFI, recently set a new record in NHRA’s CC/SA Class, running 9.25 @142 mph as driven by Todd Patterson at the NHRA Sunflower National Open held at the Sunflower Rod and Custom Association Drag Strip in Great Bend, Kansas.
The COPO Camaro comes equipped with a Holley’s HP EFI engine control unit and Holley Hi-Ram intake manifold. The Husky Liners/Patterson Racing team has been working with Holley to optimize the motor on the dyno. “During track testing, the numbers were there, and showed that the record was within reach," says Robin Lawrence, Director of Sales for Holley Performance Products.
Already setting records four races into the season, the Husky/Patterson team has plenty of opportunity to extract more power from the 427ci.
