0605Ch 26 In Tank Sender Z
Here James and Kurt are measuring the proper depth for the in-tank sender, while double-checking each other's math--a very good idea before cutting the bracket and inserting the sender in the tank.

The fuel pump has to be pulled to properly install the 90-degree brass fuel line fittings. The fuel lines were first mocked up for the proper angularity of the fittings, then the fittings were secured and the fuel pump was reinstalled.

The fuel level sender comes with easy-to-follow instructions for setting the level of the float in the tank. Before installing the float assembly in the tank, use an ohm meter to check for proper resistance from the float and sending unit. For this hookup, and the Auto Meter gauge, the resistance should read 0 ohms at the empty-float position and 90 ohms at full-float. Simply rotate the float from its lowest position to its highest mark while the ohm meter is hooked to ground and the output wire. Heed our warning; do this now or you will discover a faulty unit when you run out of gas.

The air filter normally supplied with engines of this type is adequate for shows and cruises, but if you plan on driving any distance, you'll want to call K&N for their new cool-air kit for this application. Bert Heck, Shane Reichart, and their staff at K&N utilized our car for the prototype system you see here. This kit is currently available for purchase through any K&N dealer. Not only does it look slick, we gained 30 rear-wheel horsepower and 30 lb-ft on a 96-degree California day.
