I am sure you all know it, but in case you don't, it is Chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/index.htm It covers cars from 1937-1960. Anyway, I swapped out the straight 6 for a V8 in my 1954 210 project car. I was stumped forever regarding what car had a rear end that would fit. The specs show the original gear ratio is 3.70:1. With that ratio, is it ok to keep the rear end with the V8? Also, do I need to upgrade the suspension or just rebuilt it. Thank you for you help.

We started out by putting in a 350 w/a 400 turbo and a 69 Nova's rear end. This combination ran too darned good for the truck's own good, even with a brake booster it just didn't want to stop, plus the young man just didn't like the big ole steering wheel so power steering was the next idea. So we cut the front end off of a 69 Nova SS and a welder buddy of mine helped us "fish-plate" the 69 Nova front end inside the frame rails of the 56. Now I know the old truck is going to weigh a bit more than the Nova, so any ideas on which coil spring would fit in a 69 Nova SS front end to get his 56 handling half right? Thanks for your ideas, might save us some time. Oh, and for all of the guys wondering about why we would mess up a 56 Apache, well that was done in Virginia. Seems the 56's frame was shot by setting in a field in Georgia, and to get it legal in VA. they found a 59 frame, and VA registered the vehicle by that frame #. So Antique value not what you are thinkin.

Im new to the american car scene and needed some help. I currently have a 78 El Camino SS with a stock 350 in it. It is starting to give me problems ( i think its the carb and its leaking from the front seal ) so i was thinking to Either get this engine http://lakeland.craigslist.org/pts/1449280926.html that comes with a 3 year unlimited mile warr. or take my 3k to the turkey run in daytona and try to get a deal. I know the rear end set up the car has is not so "quick" so i might get one with 3.73 gears. also my budget is to try to stay under $3500. i have some one that will do the labor for me. what would you guys do? this is going to be a daily driver and i will be pulling my jet skis and four wheeler with it from time to time and it has a 3spd auto in it....once again thanks for any advise...

I am in the process of putting a 2005 5.3L / 4L60 into mt '55 panel truck street rod project. I want to swap it to run carbs .. the best looking intake options I can find is the edelebrock intake with msd control box ( p/n 7118 ) and running a 650 or 700 cfm carb . has anyone else made this conversion ? Is there anything I should watch out for .. or any other things you ended up swapping out during your conversion ? basically looking for how yours went so I can make teh swap ASAP with as few issues as possible --- yeah I know that's a funny statement . thanks in advance , mike
