Our ProCharger setup requires... Our ProCharger setup requires the use of an ATI Performance Products damper (PN 917345). This damper eliminates torsional crankshaft vibrations and comes with two dual-keyway hubs. It also features an integrated pulley behind the balancer and routes a belt to the A/C compressor. Chevrolet Performance has really made headwind into the crate engine market with its line of LS powerplants; a complete LS3 6.2-liter can be had for as little as $7,570 from GM Performance (PN 192044097). The good news is that price includes a substantial amount of goodies, such as the ignition system, manifold, injectors, throttle body, exhaust manifolds, water pump, balancer, and an automatic flexplate. That’s 430 hp and 424 lb-ft with a 24-month Chevrolet Performance warranty! If this route appeals to you, then you’ll also appreciate the Chevrolet Performance Corvette Accessory Drive System with A/C (PN 19155067). This package comes with brackets, A/C compressor, power steering pump, belts, the tensioner assembly, and idler pulley setup for $850 ($800 on Summit Racing). Yes, this really is a one-stop bolt-in deal, and since it’s based on a Corvette package, it’ll tuck in nicely and make most retrofits that much easier. For blower applications it’s... For blower applications it’s a good idea to pin the crank pulley; this prevents the balancer from spinning on the crank due to the pressure from the supercharger belt. ProCharger supplies all the necessary components in the kit, including the balancer fixture, a 1/4-inch drill bit, and a keyway. For this combination, we decided to put our factory stock LS3 back to work, only this time with the front serpentine assembly, and let ’er rip on the dyno. The combo has already generated 501 hp with a set of long-tubes on the engine, so we wanted to see what it would produce when subjected to a healthy dose of forced induction. To make it happen, we spoke with ProCharger, who supplied us with its LSx Serpentine Drive Kit (PN LSx SDK) with the optional D-1SC supercharger upgrade. The LSx system is designed to be a compatible with the factory serpentine drive and comes with everything you need for an easy install. All you need to do is let ProCharger know which LS engine you have and whether or not you have A/C or power steering. This month we’re concentrating on the LSx SDK install, but be sure to come back in the upcoming Sept. ’12 issue, where we’ll give the full discloser on our ProCharger-packing LS3.

Pinning The Crank Once the... Pinning The Crank Once the balancer was installed, the fixture had to be bolted to the crank with the supplied bolt. We made sure to put the drill hole 180 degrees from the existing keyway on the balancer hub. Note: To prevent over drilling, mark your drill bit with tape 15/8 inches from the tip. With the drill bit marked and the fixture bolted to the crank, we used the guide hole to drill into the crank and hub, going in only as far as the tape mark. Once the hole was drilled and cleaned, we tapped in the provided dowel pin with a rubber mallet and a brass punch. Next, we installed the alternator...
