Chevy Small Block History - The Best Things Come In Small Packages
In '70 the LT1 350 engine was rated at 360hp in the Z28 and 370hp in the Corvette. Compared to the Z28 engine one year earlier, the LT1 350 provided lots of low-speed torque the 302 did not offer, but lacked the unique driving personality the 302 displayed. The first LT1 small-block was the only engine available standard in the Z28 from '70 through '72 and optional in the Corvette for the same model years. This small-block featured a mechanical camshaft, a Holley carburetor, and big 2.02 heads. For '70 these engines had 11:1 compression, and 9:5:1 for '71 and '72. View Related Article
