Late-model 4L65s, such as the one in the Escalade, are equipped with five-pin planetary-gear sets (left)--instead of the more common four-pin type--which distribute torque load more evenly to more points. Since the gear ratios in the 4L60/65 are the same as those in the 700-R4, the five-pin planetary units may also be used in those older transmissions. View Related Article
