With our fitting all but done,... With our fitting all but done, Ortis took the time to scuff up the 'glass hood's gelcoat with 80-grit paper before spraying on a coat of high-fill surfacing primer. Although we chose not to block the hood at this time, he also sprayed on a guidecoat. Once the primer and guidecoat... Once the primer and guidecoat had dried, we bolted up our new lid for the final time; as you can see, the taper Ortis created on the nose of the hood matches up nicely with our Camaro's front bumper cover. Finally, we addressed the... Finally, we addressed the side hood bumpers. We could have just left them out, but the manufacturer recommends keeping them, for vibration control and to maintain side-side alignment. Ortis closed the hood enough to mark the bumper locations. The hood was reopened, and... The hood was reopened, and the marked areas were notched to accommodate the bumpers. The idea here is to remove enough material so the hood sits flat yet snugly against the bumpers. And just like that, we had... And just like that, we had new 'glass on our '84. Even though this is a bolt-on hood using the factory latch, hood pins are still recommended, especially on third-gens, where the wind catches the area that overhangs the headlights and makes it flutter a bit. We'll get to that later, but for now, it works, and it works rather well.
