On this gravity-feed gun, the rear lower knob is the air adjustment and the upper knob controls the material (paint) delivery. For paint to form a spray pattern it needs to atomize, so selections of spray tips are offered that vary the flow and shape of the spray. Tip sizes range from 1.3 or 1.4 mm to about 1.8 mm. Which tip to use depends on what is being sprayed (primer, sealer, color coat, clear), the type of gun, manufacturer recommendation, the weather, and how well the paint is spraying from the gun on a particular day.
