Before adding the cam adapter,... Before adding the cam adapter, QMP recommends including a dab of silicone to the ends of each of the three bolts included for the adapter. As we installed the cam adapter, we made sure the rear thrust washer remained center and rode flush against the cam adapter. Then we used the supplied spanner wrench, along with our own torque wrench, and torqued each bolt to 30 ft-lb. Before installing the outer... Before installing the outer thrust washer over the nose of the cam adapter, we added a thin layer of oil. We added the supplied shims... We added the supplied shims to the front of the timing cover. Make a mental note here: Do not add any kind of oil or sealant to the shims, as it's critical that you keep them dry. Before installing the thrust... Before installing the thrust plate, we applied a thin amount of silicone (or sealant) to the back side. This'll ensure that when the plate is tightened, it will seal against the shim to prevent any leakage. We then placed antiseize on... We then placed antiseize on the base of the crank snout and the inside of the lower gear before sliding it onto the end of the snout. Using the Jesel pulley driver,... Using the Jesel pulley driver, we pressed the lower gear onto the snout and gently tapped the gear until it stopped against the crankshaft. To check the camshaft endplay,... To check the camshaft endplay, we placed a dial indicator on the block and had the indicator facing the camshaft adapter. Jesel recommends endplay between 0.005 and 0.010 inch; for our particular application, that only required one shim. With the endplay correct, we removed the thrust plate to apply sealant between the shims (QMP suggests using Gasgacinch) and retightened it. To prep the upper gear, we... To prep the upper gear, we turned the motor and placed the No. 6 cylinder to top dead center (TDC) and rotated the cam to the 12 o'clock position by having the keyway facing up. From there we placed the upper gear assembly onto the cam adapter, threaded the left-hand bolt loosely with our fingers, and tilted the top of the upper gear down toward the crankshaft to slide the belt over the upper and lower gears. With the belt and gear snug,... With the belt and gear snug, we then torque the left-hand bolt to 70 ft-lb.
