Nitrous Oxide Systems - Say Yes To No - Nitrous Power!

Because nitrous oxide adds oxygen to the combustion process, you must make sure your vehicle's fuel pump and regulator can supply the extra fuel needed to go with it. Fuel pressure should be 6-10 pounds for a carbureted application; EFI systems should follow the manufacturer's recommendations. In addition to pressure, you must make sure your system flows enough to support your horsepower goals. How much do you need? Follow this formula: hp 2 = pounds per hour (lb/hr)
lb/hr 6 = gallons per hour (gph)
gph x 1.15 = minimum gph So let's think big here. If you've got a 500hp engine you intend to hit with a 200hp shot:700 2 = 350 lb/hr
350 6 = 58.3 gph
58.3 x 1.15 = 67.05 minimum gph The BG220 pump shown here flows more than 220 gph, more than enough to handle the job.  Because nitrous and fuel can...  Because nitrous and fuel can be fed directly into each cylinder, direct-port injection provides the biggest nitrous power gains and the utmost in adjustability. The number of direct-port nozzle variations is mind-boggling, but whatever the design specifics, the goal is the same: optimum atomization of the fuel and nitrous mixture as it enters the intake runner. This selection includes, from left to right, NOS' Fogger, Annular Discharge, and Soft Plume nozzles; Edelbrock's E1, E2, and E3 Series Nozzles; and Zex's Wet Nitrous and Direct Port nozzles.  The quickest, easiest, and...  The quickest, easiest, and least expensive way to inject nitrous into an engine is with a plate system, and most use tried-and-true spray-bar technology. Both the NOS Dominator Pro two-stage plate at upper left and the Double Cross next to it support up to 500 hp. The Big Shot plate at lower right is the foundation for some of NOS' more popular kits; it delivers 200-400 hp. Plate systems also work well in EFI apps; the wet plate shown here helps add a 200-horse kick to LS2 powerplants.  Nitrous backfires can occur...  Nitrous backfires can occur when an engine develops too much cylinder pressure on the juice; the force can be enough to destroy an intake manifold or carburetor. A burst panel, like this piece from Nitrous Pro-Flow, allows the excess to vent to the atmosphere instead.  One of the newest developments...  One of the newest developments in plate technology is Speedtech Nitrous' Diffuser system. This setup seeks to create a highly atomized air/fuel ratio and even distribution in the intake plenum by injecting the nitrous in a 360-degree radial spray pattern through a two-piece stainless insert. It's tunable for 100- to 500hp shots and works with any square-flange application; count on us to put it to the test sometime soon.  Zex's Perimeter Plate nitrous...  Zex's Perimeter Plate nitrous technology seeks better distribution by injecting the nitrous and fuel through 12 injection points strategically placed around the perimeter of the intake plenum and angled toward its center rather than through a spray bar. Zex's newest iteration, its EFI Perimeter Plate system, is specifically calibrated to work with square-flange-style, carb-to-EFI conversion intake manifolds.  More often than not, once... The purple box shown here is one of Zex's wet-system Nitrous Management Units-all the system components are assembled inside for plug-and-play, two-hour installation. The goodies flanking it, however, are part of Zex's Add-A-Stage Nitrous System, designed to upgrade any manufacturer's single-stage EFI nitrous kit to a two-stage system. For optimum results, both on and off the squeeze, a system like this MSD Programmable Digital 7 Plus AL allows the user to retard spark timing as needed while on the squeeze but retain normal timing when running naturally aspirated.
