We loosened the bolts on the cam gear and removed it along with the chain, then we pulled the camshaft out, all the while being careful not to ding or gouge the cam bearings. It'll help to spin the camshaft as it's pulled out of the block. Once the cam is out, inspect the bearings for unusual wear, because now would be the time to replace them if need be. The Crower valvesprings were... The Crower valvesprings were sent over to QMP headquarters, where they were ramped (tested) to find the correct install height. This Crower setup was good for 1.900 inches, but shims had to be added to obtain the proper install height on the cylinder head. Valvesprings can be swapped... Valvesprings can be swapped while the cylinder heads are on the engine, but we went ahead and removed the heads, inspected them for wear, and installed new shims, valvesprings, retainers, and 10-degree locks. We started with the No. 1 cylinder and brought it up to TDC so the valve wouldn't drop through into our cylinder. We screwed on the spring compressor to the rocker stud and pressed down on top of the retainer until the locks popped off-it's that simple. We removed the spring along with the seals and shims. While the piston was at TDC, we replaced the old spring with the new one along with the new shims, valve seals, springs, retainers, and locks. The same process applies for each cylinder: remove and replace.
