We loosened the bolts on the cam gear and removed it along with the chain, then we pulled the camshaft out, all the while being careful not to ding or gouge the cam bearings. It'll help to spin the camshaft as it's pulled out of the block. Once the cam is out, inspect the bearings for unusual wear, because now would be the time to replace them if need be.
