Editor Smith's Chevelle caught a little tire smoke immediately before the car came to a complete stop. As a vehicle stops, the center of gravity shifts forward, decreasing rear-tire traction. Fortunately, the Chevelle has an adjustable rear-brake proportioning valve that can decrease rear brake pressure and eliminate rear tire lockup. Pavement conditions, tire size, and tire compound contribute to how well a vehicle brakes. The Chevelle ran a best 12.08 at 112.95 mph and had a best stopping distance of 416 feet.
