Using a factory coil spring to lower the front end is entirely possible. There are only three ways to safely cut a spring. One is with a diamond-tipped hacksaw blade; it will take some time but can be done. The other two ways are with an abrasive air-powered cutoff wheel or with a bench-mounted chop saw.
