The biggest hassle with aftermarket pumps, pulleys, and brackets is that this reference height can vary dramatically. This photo shows two aftermarket short water pumps with a 3/8-inch difference in height. This is often what causes pulley misalignment. Weve found that most good aftermarket pumps like the Edelbrock, Weiand, and Stewart pumps are very close to the factory reference height. However, inexpensive iron rebuilt pumps you get from the local auto parts store are often way off. View Related Article
