Often an illustration can tell the story better than words. The cam on the left uses relatively short duration lobes with a 112-degree lobe separation angle. The cam on the right uses the same 112-degree lobe separation angle but employs longer-duration intake and exhaust lobes. Note that the cam on the right offers significantly more overlap with 43.5 degrees compared to the smaller cam’s 14 degrees. View Related Article
