Camshaft Lobe Phasing

Computing the lobe separation angle is easy. Merely add the intake and exhaust lobe centerlines together and divide by two. In this instance, the intake uses a 106-degree centerline with 118-degree exhaust. The lobe separation angle is 112 degrees (106 + 118 = 224/2 = 112). Unless you are working with a dual overhead cam engine, grinding a new cam is the only way to change the lobe separation angle. View Related Article
